ECO Alphabet: Week 24: X-out

Updated: Sep 17, 2020

For this week, I am going to create a zero waste checklist, so that you are able to X-out the practices once you turn them into habit.

Studies show that it takes 6 weeks to create a habit. Stay strong! Find a buddy to be your accountability partner and to become zero waste together :)

I have attached links for more in-depth information on that topic.

__ Carry a reusable water bottle - if heat and cool resistant you can use for coffee too!

__ Don't use a straw. But if you do, use a reusable one

__ Refuse plastic bags. Take a reusable bag, and if you forget, ask for paper instead.

__ Buy in bulk to reduce the amount of waste purchased

__ Don't buy clothing from fast fashion companies. Buy at consignment shops or from sustainable clothing brands.

__ Donate clothes and items you no longer want rather than throwing them away

__ Throw natural waste, like fruit peels, wooden popsicle sticks, etc, into the woods instead of in the trash

__ Pack your lunch, or when you eat out try not to take to-go.

__ Whenever you do have waste, be sure to separate the contents into proper waste bins

__ Carpool as much as possible

__ Make your own toothpaste, shampoo, and other soaps, or find a store you can purchase refils

__ When buying cleaning products, check the labels to make sure they have no harmful chemicals.

__ Wrap gifts in reusable or recyclable packages

__ Eat consciously. Check the ingredients for contents that may be unsustainable.

__ Share the sustainable message
