A beautiful and fairly easy hike in Dawsonville, GA.
Being Gypsy del Oceano, I'm always attracted to finding the water, no matter wear I am.
Amicalola Falls is the start of the Appalachian Trail. And it is a beautiful place to begin!
There is a $5 parking fee to get into the state park.
Now you're probably wondering what I meany by fairly easy...
The paths are pretty flat, nothing special...BUT to get to the top of the falls you climb 600 stairs. 😱
I have really bad knees and I was able to make it up fine. There is a rest stop and a bench about every 2 or 3 levels.
The stairs are broken up into two sections.
The first set is like a warm up - 175 steps. They have a nice bridge where you're in the middle of the falls.
The photo to the right is the second set of stairs. I didn't go to the gym that morning, so I sent this picture to by gym trainer to prove that I was still working out. 😋
It took about 1 hour to get to the top (from the parking lot) - that will vary based on your stair climbing skills.
If you're still eager to hike, you can keep going and start the Appalachian Trail. I continued on for about another 30 min, then turned around.
Unfortunately, there is not a place where you can get in and swim. But you can walk through the creek if you need that feeling of water on your toes like I do.
Below are some bad quality photos I got during the hike, and a video of the falls :)
