Eco Alphabet: Week 21: Upcycling
Updated: Sep 17, 2020
Upcycling is basically creative reuse. It is the transforming of one product into another.
"Giving it a new life"
A few weeks a go I did a post on the four R's: Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Reuse the the best and most efficient way to keep things out of the landfill.
Why not recycle? Usually recycled products cannot be used for the same product, it is basically a slower route to the landfill.
Reuse can create a legacy for your old products.
For example, glass bottles can be turned into cups, candle holders, or vases.
Pachamama Alliance shared that for every ton of discarded textile reused, 20 tons of CO2 is prevented from entering the atmosphere!
I found this company called Upcycle That that has several upcycle ideas! Check them out for creative and cute ideas!
Another great post I found, by Bankrate, explains how to remodel your home with reclaimed materials and save money! They share a lot of great information, so I'll just give you that link right here! https://www.bankrate.com/real-estate/remodel-for-less-with-reclaimed-materials/
I have attached some photos below of other cool upcycle ideas! :) If you do a new project with upcycling, please send me photos! I would love to see your ideas!
